Mar 22, 2020 Star Topology Network Design, Diagram and Description. Here is the Star Topology Layout Picture for proper understanding this concept. It is clearly evident from the diagram that this Type of Topology works by using a central device to which all other Nodes like Clients, Servers and other Network Nodes are connected.
Prerequisite – Network Topologies
Star Topology:
In Star topology, the nodes are connected to the central hub or router in which the information is travel from central hub or router to all the nodes. There are n links in Star topology, if there are n nodes. The nodes are connected to each other completely via dedicated link in which the information is travel from nodes to nodes.

In Star topology, all the components of network are connected to the central device called “hub” which may be a hub, a router or a switch. Unlike Bus topology (discussed earlier), where nodes were connected to central cable, here all the workstations are connected to central device with a point-to-point connection. A star topology is a network topology in which all the network nodes are individually connected to a central switch, hub or computer which acts as a central point of communication to pass on the.
Mesh Topology:
In Mesh topology, the nodes are connected to each other completely via dedicated link in which the information is travel from nodes to nodes and there are N(N-1)/2 links in Mesh topology, if there are N nodes.

In Star topology, addition, deletion, and moving of the devices are easy. Disadvantages: Here are cons/drawbacks of using Star: If the hub or concentrator fails, attached nodes are disabled. Cost of installation of star topology is costly. Heavy network traffic can sometimes slow the bus considerably. Performance depends on the hub's capacity. Let’s start with the star topology Star Topology. You will see the star topology often when we talk about switches, here’s an example: It’s called a star topology because all communication has to go through the switch, it is the central component of our network.

Star Topology
Star Topology is the most common type of network topology that is used in homes and offices. In the Star Topology there is a central connection point called the hub which is a computer hub or sometimes just a switch. In a Star Network the best advantage is when there is a failure in cable then only one computer might get affected and not the entire network.
